AIR NIUGINI PROMOTES 2015 PACIFIC GAMES

Air Niugini as the National Flag carrier has taken a major step in promoting the 2015 Pacific Games by engraving the games logo on three of its aircraft.

The popular yellow lagatoi with red, green, black and blue colors capturing the spirit of the games and Papua New Guinea is visible on Air Niugini’s two Boeing 737 and a Fokker 100 aircraft.

Air Niugini Board Chairman, Sir Fred Reiher said the 2015 Pacific Games is a momentous regional event that will coincide with the country’s 40th anniversary and Air Niugini as the national airline is happy to be able to participate in a big way.

“ Air Niugini has one and a half years to promote the Pacific Games and Papua New Guinea to the rest of the world and the airline is proud to be able to promote this momentous occasion prior to the actual event.”

The three aircraft with the Pacific games logo will be promoting the games in the regions that the airline operates to including Australia, Asia and the Pacific well ahead and in time for the games next year.

He also said under Air Niugini’s fleet modernization program, the airline should upgrade all aircraft in its Boeing fleet prior to the Games next year. The retrofit on three aircraft has been completed with only two more aircraft to go.

“ The retrofit lifts Air Niugini and Papua New Guinea standards in air travel. It ensures a much higher standard and comfort for customers travelling on Air Niugini Bird Of Paradise services- and what a timing to coincide with the 2015 Pacific Games.” Sir Fred said.
Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Mr Simon Foo said the airline will be responsible for the movement of most athletes and cargo during the Games and that the airline is proud to be able to lead the way in promoting this regional event.

“ I understand that about 4,500 participants including 3000 athletes will be attending the Pacific Games. That is a huge number of people and cargo movement at one time. Hence, we are getting additional aircraft, upgrading our current Boeing fleet and are looking forward to this.” He said

The 2015 Pacific Games will be held in Port Moresby from the 04th to the 18th July 2015. Twenty two(22) countries in the Pacific are expected to participate in 28 sports. An estimated 4,500 people are expected to converge including 3000 athletes, 1000 technical officials and 500 officials.

This will be Papua New Guinea’s third time to host the Pacific Games; the first game was hosted in 1969, followed by 1991. The Pacific Games is held every four years.
