Judah Rimbu Returns to Strengthen SP PNG Hunters for 2025 Campaign

The SP PNG Hunters have confirmed that hooker Judah Rimbu has rejoined the team for the rest of the 2025 Hostplus Cup season. His return is expected to provide the Hunters with a timely boost as they aim to finish the season strongly.

Rimbu, who was named the 2024 QRL Petero Civoniceva Medalist for being the competition’s best and fairest, comes back to the Hunters after spending time with Castleford Tigers in the English Super League. His release from Castleford follows a mid-year reshuffle by the club. The talented 23-year-old arrived in Port Moresby today and will link up with the squad later this week to begin preparations for crucial upcoming fixtures.

Paul Aiton, the Hunters’ head coach, expressed his delight at Rimbu’s return, highlighting the positive influence he has on the group. “Judah’s return is a big lift for us. His energy and quality on the field make a real difference, and the players are excited to have him back,” Aiton said. He added that Rimbu’s homecoming would strengthen the team as they push towards their season goals.

Sharing his thoughts on returning to Papua New Guinea, Rimbu said he was determined to make the most of the opportunity. “Although things didn’t go as I had hoped in the UK, I’m ready to work hard at home and help the Hunters achieve another successful year,” Rimbu said.

SP PNG Hunters CEO Scott Barker also commended Rimbu’s attitude and potential. “Judah is not just a talented footballer — he’s a great person too,” Barker said. “We’re very pleased to welcome him back, and we’ll continue to support his development so he can achieve even more in his career.”

Rimbu’s inclusion comes at a vital point in the Hunters’ 2025 campaign, bringing additional experience, leadership, and strength to the side as they focus on the challenges ahead.
