Drug Scandal Rocks PNG Police Force: Two Officers Among Five Arrested
A major drug bust in Port Moresby has resulted in the arrest of two police officers and three civilians at a city hotel. The arrests occurred on Saturday, June 14, following a tip-off from the public, according to National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab.
Inspector Potol Husen, Constable Emmanuel Somon, and the civilians—Japheth Warus, Rick Posing, and Cathleen Tau—were allegedly found consuming methamphetamine and in possession of drug-related items. Police forensic teams later confirmed the substance as methamphetamine.
Simatab said the two officers will be summarily dismissed and face criminal charges as civilians. He warned that the police force would not protect those who engage in criminal activities while wearing the uniform.

The Metropolitan Superintendent thanked the public for their vital role in assisting police with intelligence that led to the arrests. He called on citizens to continue sharing information that can help fight crime.
“All suspects are now in custody at Boroko Police Station and will be brought before the courts shortly,” he said.
Simatab reiterated that the RPNGC is determined to clean its ranks and restore public confidence by holding rogue officers accountable.
