Representatives from PNG’s aviation and maritime agencies recently signed new Partnership Support Plans (PSPs) with Australia. The signing ceremony, facilitated by the Australian High Commission, marked the start of enhanced cooperation aimed at addressing the priorities identified through joint consultation and collaboration between the two nations.
According to the Australian High Commission, the PSPs will fund crucial activities across various PNG agencies, including the National Airport Corporation, Accident Investigation Commission, Niusky Pacific, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, and National Maritime Safety Authority. The initiative is expected to bolster safety, oversight, and operational capacity in both aviation and maritime sectors.
Australia’s support also aims to help PNG prepare for the arrival of Air Niugini’s new fleet, expected in time for the country’s 50th independence anniversary. This assistance is part of a broader effort to ensure PNG’s transport systems can meet future demands and contribute to national development.
