China equips Vanuatu Mobile Force

The Vanuatu Mobile Force has received heavy military and commercial vehicles and other hardware equipment from the government of China.

Prime Minister Charlot Salwai says with the equipment the Vanuatu Mobile Force will continue to mobilize its operation more effectively.

“I am adamant that the vehicles will assist the force to effectively discharge their duties as well as enable them support the National Disaster Management office in times of natural disaster something that was not effectively as witness TC Pam struck,” he said.

Salwai called on those who will be charged with the use and management of these assets to do so with pride and ensure that they are used for the intended purpose.

Speaking at the handover ceremony this week, Salwai said the People’s Republic of China continues to be one of Vanuatu’s major development partners and supporter of Vanuatu’s development efforts since they established bilateral relations back in the 1980’s.

“It is for the reason that the Government of Vanuatu would like continue to maintain the good diplomatic relation that it has with the people and the Government of china through support for the one China Policy.”

The donation included vehicles, 3 troop carriers, 2 medium buses, 2 fully equipped recovery vehicles, 4 B90 sedan cars, 2 fully equipped ambulances and a fire truck.

The agreement between the military of National Defense of the People Republic of China and Vanuatu Government through the ministry of the Internal Affair of the Republic of Vanuatu, the military aid grant assistance is to the value of 8,000,000.00 (eight million RMB) which is about USD1 million  .
