AIR NIUGINI SIGNS A MoU WITH THE CENTRAL PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT ON THE CADET PILOT PROGRAM
National airline, Air Niugini will be accepting cadets from the Central Provincial Government’ s cadet pilot program who meet the airline’s direct entry requirement for employment purposes.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) between Air Niugini CEO, Simon Foo and Governor for Central Province, Kila Haoda in Port Moresby today.
The signing now paves way for the airline to select top cadets from the initial five females who have been selected recently under the provincial government’s initiative to undergo pilot training at the Nelson Aviation College in New Zealand. Air Niugini will only consider the cadets that meet the airline’s pilot recruitment criteria to join the airline after their initial pilot training.
Air Niugini CEO, Simon Foo said “ As the national flag carrier, Air Niugini is here to serve the people of Papua New Guinea. We are pleased to be able to support this excellent initiative by partnering with the Central Provincial Government to build the capacity of PNG pilots.”
He also said the MoU now may allow for both parties with the view of going into a possible agreement in the future allowing Air Niugini to work together with the Central Provincial Government on its pilot recruitment program.
“ Air Niugini has 25 years of cadet recruitment experience in seeking the best candidates for the program as had been demonstrated with our own successful cadet program and we hope in the future, we can support the Central Provincial Government right from the initial stages of recruitment.”
The Central Provincial Government has recently initiated a cadet pilot program where the first five female cadets have been selected to undergo training in New Zealand. This is in line with the provincial government’s vision to provide opportunity for young people of Central Province to develop themselves in the flying career. The scholarships have been initially given to females to ensure gender equality in a male dominated field.
Air Niugini on the other hand has seven female cadet pilots currently operating different aircraft type, two first officers each on Fokker 100 aircraft and Q400, one on Dash 8 and two are still at the Flying school.
