New Zealand Company to build flyover in Port Moresby

New Zealand contractor Hawkins has been awarded the design and construct contract for the Kookaburra Street Flyover and Roading project in Port Moresby

The project comprises a 600m long four-lane concrete flyover, just under 2.5km four lane road, side road tie-ins, roundabouts, drainage, foot paths, service relocations, lighting, bus bays, and associated street-scapes and furniture.

The large scale project is thefirst for Papua New Guinea and a first for any Pacific Island country. The flyover and carriageway is a vital conduit from the Jacksons Airport to Waigani which supports many hotels, businesses, PNG Government departments and international embassies.

The project value is just over K160 million, and contract completion will take about 109 weeks, split into 3-4 months site investigation and design and the balance construction.

The project will be resourced from a combination of both local and international expertise, and the project managed within strict and proven Hawkins QHSE guidelines.

The Hawkins team will be establishing not only the design, but also new specifications and guidelines for large civil structures never seen before in PNG.

Hawkins said it was delighted to be given the opportunity to deliver such a high profile project by the PNG Government, and looks forward to establishing a close working relationship with the local community and all key stakeholders. Post Courier
