Gulf - Morobe Highway starts

Plans to connect the Gulf and Morobe provinces with a road link as started.
The proposed national highway will start from Kukia area, near Malalauwa Station in the Gulf province through the jungle of Kotidanga, Kaintiba, then to Minyama in the Morobe province.
This major road project is part of the governments Medium Term Development Plan to connect the missing links across the country, basically to make accessibility more easier for the people.
This road works here is the commencement of the government plan to connect the Gulf and Morobe provinces with a road link.
Kana Construction Limited has been awarded the contract with an initial funding of five million kina to carryout the first phase of the earth works.
Already 16-point-5 kilometers of the road, starting from Malalaua to near Kotindanga has been cleared for construction.
A government team, led by Works secretary David Were and NBC news team visited the area recently to survey the project sites.
The team were impressed by the progress of the work, particularly the locals there as they were very helpful.
The government team after visiting Mandewa where the current road clearing is taking place, they also made an Ariel view of the sites where the road will run through, starting from Malalauwa, to Kaintiba and all the way to Miniama and back.
Meantime time, phase one of the project which involve clearing of forest and basic earth works is nearing completion.
The survey for actual design and construction phase is expected soon on the cleared sites, whilst phase one continues further into the proposed route.
