PNG AG Ano Pala calls on Kua to apologise |
Attorney General, Ano Pala, has called on Hon Kerenge Kua to make an unreserved apology to two highly respected judges with long and impartial judicial service to Papua New Guinea.
Attorney General Pala said he was astounded that Mr Kua would try to draw Judge Graham Ellis and Justice Warwick Andrew (ret) into politics by calling on them not to serve the nation by leading two independent investigative bodies.
“It is an insult to Judge Ellis and Justice Andrew to question their ability to remain impartial,” Attorney General Pala said.
“These two esteemed judges have decades of experience in ensuring neutrality in the judicial process and independence from politics.
“They are taking on important responsibility and the government is genuine about addressing the issues that are dividing opinion in the nation.
“It is important for all impartial institutions of the state and professional people to take a neutral position on these issues now before the court. Politicians should refrain from dragging them into the political arena.
“Mr Kua must apologise unreservedly to Judge Ellis and Justice Andrew.”
Mr Pala said there has been enough political mudslinging over the past two weeks and this has tarnished the image of the nation.
“It is time to move on and focus on the job of running the nation,” the Attorney General said.
