Court rules against O'neill
The National Court has thrown out Prime Minister’s bid to stave off warrants of
arrest . This means that Prime Minister O’neill will go through Police interview on the payments paid to Paraka Lawyers and in
found guilty, he will be formally arrested.
Judge Ere Kariko ruled out the application to stay
the warrants of arrest in his ruling which began at 11am.
The judge said the grounds submitted did not
persuade the court to interfere in the constitional role of the police.
The case has held the attention of the nation for
the past few weeks as police, politicians and lawyers have been busy in the
court, over at Konedobu and online.
O'neill government has suspended senior police officers and the premature retirement of Police
Commissioner Tom Kulunga, disbanding of the government’s own Task Force Sweep
and replacements of senior lawyers after they issued arrest warrant on the Prime Minister.
