Kuman: Church - Government partnership way forward

Church-government partnerships are the right way forward for development, a senior MP and Cabinet Minister has said. Gumine MP and Education Minister Nick Kuman told over 2000 parishioners of St Anne’s parish, Dirima, Chimbu Province that the government has aligned with the churches to bring development to the people.

Minister Hon. Nick Kuman who visited the parish recently, for the 50th anniversary of St Anne’s Church and the farewell celebration of parish priest, Fr John Le, who served the parish for 10 years, made the government’s approach known.

Minister Hon. Nick Kuman, in the presence of Bishop of Kundiawa, Bishop Anton Bal, the clergy and the Catholic faithful, said the churches have done a tremendous job in the areas of spiritual and physical growth prior to independence and are continuing to do the same. He said the government acknowledged the contributions made by the churches and will enhance its support and partnership; of which the details would be made known soon by the O’Neill-Dion Government.

Minister Hon. Nick Kuman congratulated St Anne’s parish and outgoing parish priest Fr John Le for improving the infrastructure of the parish during his 10 years administration. He also committed K20,000 to the parish to buy tiles for the floor of the church building. Bishop Anton Bal said the church and the government would work together where the church for development but the people must determine how the processes should take shape. Bishop Bal said the people should reflect in their attitudes and behaviours their faith in God for the sustainability and continuation of social services that are required to improve living standards.
