SIRINUMU DAM WATER LEVEL DROP

PNG Power said, a shut-down to the Rouna 2 Hydro station is imminent, if the dry Port Moresby weather continues for the next few weeks.
A technical team from PNG Power and members of the media visited the Sirinumu Dam at the Sogeri Plateaus on Friday, and witnessed a 50-percent critical drop in water level.

The only dam that supplies water for both Eda Ranu for water supply and PNG Power for electricity generation has faced critical situation.
The dam has continue to drop in the last two weeks and is continuing to drop due to less rain in area.
According to Team Leader Operations Robert Auka normal water level is 320 million cubic meters, however currently the water level has dropped to 180 million cubic meters, nearly reaching the minimum critical level.
" We already cutting down on time releases just to save water to city water supply. We don't want to get to a stage where you know we use up everything, bai yumi kisim wara long we ken."
Meantime, if the water level reaches the minimum volume of 50 cubic meters, the release will be strictly for Eda Ranu requirements only.
