Five Students Identified in Viral Video and Harassment Case at PNG University of Technology
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) has confirmed that five students have been identified in connection with a viral video showing the harassment of a young woman on campus. According to the university’s Senior Executive Management Team (SEMT), investigations into the incident, which occurred on August 9, have commenced and the students have been reported to campus authorities.
The SEMT described the behaviour as unacceptable, stating it violated the values of respect, dignity, and safety that the university upholds. The team said any student found to have verbally, physically, or sexually harassed the victim would face disciplinary action under the University Student Disciplinary Committee (USDC) rules and could also be referred to police.
The university stressed that investigations will continue as a matter of urgency. It also issued a warning that no student should harass, intimidate, or target others in relation to the incident, adding that retaliation or bullying would result in strict disciplinary measures.
PNGUoT reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
