PNG APPOINTS NEW HONORARY CONSUL IN TAIPEI

Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry, Richard Maru has announced that the government has decided to establish a Trade Office in the Capital of Taiwan, Taipei and has appointed Mr Chang Chin-The the Chairman of the Taiwan Turnkey Association as PNG’s Honorary Consil in Taipei.

The announcement was made known last night during a dinner hosted by Minister Maru for a delegation of Taiwanese Trade Delegation which arrived in the country yesterday following an invitation he made when he led a trade delegation to Taiwan.

Mr Maru Congratulated Mr Chang Chin-Teh on his appointment saying that the PNG Government is very confident with the appointment of Mr Chin-Teh and people-to-people relationship within Taiwan will be strengthen and enhanced.

“The appointment has now become strategically important given the surge in trade and investment,” Maru said.

“Consistent with the current government strategic intent in promoting and encouraging investment in renewal sectors and empowering the indigenous Papua New Guineans through the development and growth of Small to Medium Enterprise,” said Mr Maru.

Mr Chang Chin-Teh also thanked the PNG Government for his appointment and said that Taiwan is here to satu in PNG and grow in business and assist PNG in bringing in investors from Taiwan.

He said that he will do his part for PNG and would like to see the trade relationship between the two countries further enhanced and strengthened.
