Vaki in possession of Paraka files
PNG acting Police Commision Geoffrey Vaki |
Commissioner Vaki had received a briefing by the lead case
investigators, and files passed on to his office for assessment.
This, he says, is to have an objective assessment on the
files to verify whether it has substantive evidence.
From his office yesterday afternoon, Acting Commissioner
Geoffrey Vaki, told the media that it is not in his interest to restrain the
arrest warrant on the Prime Minister however he has to be objective about the
whole investigation.
Vaki said he will assess the Paraka files before deciding
whether to pass them on to the public prosecutor for its assessment and what
necessary steps to take from there.
The Acting Commissioner also clarified that he has the
constitutional rights to lay, charge or withdraw cases and he will exercise
that right if need be.
When asked whether he was referring to Prime Minister’s
arrest warrant case, Mr. Vaki denied this saying he was making a general
comment on the rights of all police officers that are guided by the
constitution bound to perform their duties.
