PNG Hunters aim for big clash with Northern Pride
NOBODY doubts that this Sunday’s game in Cairns against the Northern Pride is a crucial game for the PNG Hunters to stay in touch with the Intrust Super Cup competition leaders.
An impressive performance, ideally a victory, would give the Hunters a massive boost not only on the points ladder but showcase the players to the biggest TV audience to date with several stations carrying the telecast of the game.
The Hunters sit in sixth position and have a score to settle with the Pride who defeated them in their round four match in Kokopo.
The Hunters coaching staff and management are hoping that the recent engagement of PNG LNG as a partner will generate enough power to motivate the team to an upset win over the competition leaders.
The Hunters will be dressed in brand new jumpers with PNG LNG featured on the back above the playing number – which is part of the ongoing sponsorship agreement with PNG LNG and Team Kumul.
PNGRFL CEO Brad Tassell said that the PNG LNG Project is a major sponsor of Rugby League at a National level in PNG and the inclusion of the Hunters as part of their sponsorship was logical.
“The PNG LNG logo will be highly visible along the top back of the Hunters home and away jersey, and the new jerseys will be worn for the first time against the Pride this Sunday. We hope that that translates into an equally powerful display from the boys against the Pride.”
Tassell said that PNG LNG has demonstrated that it is a great supporter of Rugby league in PNG through the Team Kumul and Hunters sponsorship, and are committed to assisting the PNGRFL in providing a pathway for PNG players and the PNGRFL’s long-term goal of improving international performances. “We’re thrilled that our sponsorship of the Kumuls now also covers the PNG Hunters,” Peter Graham, ExxonMobil PNG Limited (operator of the PNG LNG Project) managing director said.
“We value this opportunity to support PNG’s national sport and recognise the potential for the Kumuls and the Hunters to be ambassadors and role models, and to have a positive influence on Papua New Guinean youth in particular. Our entire workforce will be cheering
