Colombia’s Young Striker Rodriguez wins golden boot
SOCCER RIO DE JANEIRO: Colombia’s young striker James Rodriguez (pictured) has claimed the World Cup’s top scorer honours with six goals. Rodriguez, 23, won the Golden Boot after finding the net in each of Colombia five matches. Neither Thomas Mueller or Lionel Messi could improve their tallies of five and four respectively in yesterday’s (PNGT) final, which was won 1-0 by Germany in extra time. Mueller had finished top scorer with five goals in the 2010 tournament in South Africa and had been seeking to win the award for an unprecedented second time. Rodriguez, who plays his club football in the French league with Monaco, was widely praised for his all-round performance in addition to his scoring feats. The first of his two goals against Uruguay, in which he controlled the ball with his chest before firing in a spectacular volley, has been voted one of the best of the tournament.
