No hard evidence for Prime Minister O'neill to resign

I WOULD like to express my views regarding the current political turmoil that has resulted from the K71.8 million-payment to Paul Paraka Lawyers.

The payment caused political opponents, activists and some civil societies to rally around to get public support so they can hold protests, demanding Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to step down from office and surrender to the police for questioning.

However, most people, NGOs, institutions and civil societies throughout the country are taking a neutral stand over the issue, which means they are not supporting either party.

This is due to the fact that we do not have hard evidence in place to prove who is right and who is wrong.

Most organisations and institutions remain neutral and those who wished to take part in the protest or strike did it as individuals exercising their individual democracy.

I am wondering why our popular activist, Noel Anjo, is calling on the UPNG student representative council president Bobby Yupi to step down for not getting UPNG students to back the planned protests last week.

Anjo even accused Yupi for accepting bribes from O’Neill.

Does Anjo have any evidence to prove this?

We must understand that this is a democratic country and every citizen has his/her own right to do anything under every common law of the country.

We must learn to respect individual rights and views, instead of pointing fingers or falsely accusing anyone for not living up to our selfish expectations.

Those UPNG students who joined the protesters last Tuesday did it as individuals, and were not representing the UPNG community.

I think O’Neill is doing well in presenting himself in court.

We must not be influenced by a few power-hungry individuals, but wait patiently and let the court alone decide which party is right and which is wrong, and take the necessary actions.

There is not hard evidence for Prime Minister O'neill to resign.
