Chinese Company sends PNG Students to study in China
Five Papua New Guinean undergraduate students will have travel to Beijing in China next month to complete their bachelor in marine engineering degree thanks to China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.
An official agreement signing ceremony was held yesterday between the five students and the company in the presence of their parents and authorities from the Chinese Embassy and Office of Higher Education.
The students will be away in China for five years with the first academic year to learn the Chinese language before proceeding on to their engineering studies.
Managing director of the China Harbour Engineering company, Ma Jianhua, said that the company has been providing hundreds of job opportunities for local staff and has been training a group of talents in engineering management and construction since 2011.
Current projects worth mentioning are the construction of the new Lae port and the NCDC road project from Erima to Nine Mile, projects that were described as progressing well and ahead of schedule.
And now for the first time of its kind, China Harbour Engineering as a private company will be sponsoring these five students on full scholarships to study in China from tuition fees, accommodation, living allowance and annual return flight fees for holidays.
"As an international contractor, during operation, China Harbour not only fulfils the employer’s requirements and follows all the related regulations, but it has also taken up responsibilities for local society," Mr Jianhua said.
Mr Jianhua said this is not the last time and hopes for the number of scholarships to increase in the years to come.
