Cheap Counterfeit Asian products affecting PNG Local Businesses

With a lot of Asian products dominating our country this has caused stress upon local businesses and companies to sell their PNG made products.

One of this is the Small Business Centre located at the Gordons Industrial Area, which specialises in manufacturing leather foot wares, belts and others for adults and kids.

Small Industries Centre, which is a division of Small Business Development Corporation has its factory located at the Gordons Industrial Area and manufactures leather products ranging from, sandals, belts, key tags and hats for all ages.

According to the sales representative Ms Moun Kenin, Business sales has not been going well for Small Business Centre due to a lot of competition being brought in by counterfeit Asian products, hence they are now having 10% discount sales which will continue till the end of November.

Ms Kenin said that a lot of their stocks from previous years have been piling up in their stores room and this was something that they decided to do to get rid of the old products before introducing the new.

“Over the years most of the leather made sandals and belts have been on sale but customers have dropped due to a lot of counterfeit products being sold in the streets which has caused a great impact on our business, so with the 10% discount sales that we are doing we hope to bring back our customers and at the same time promote PNG Made products,” she said.
