PNGRFL NAME DIGICEL CUP ALL STARS TEAM
The PNGRFL have today announced the two All Star teams to clash as a curtain raiser to the PM13 Kumul vs. Kangaroos match on October 12th in Kokopo.
The Digicel Cup All-Stars team is selected from the Digicel Cup competition while the Confederate All-Stars was selected from last weekends National Championships held in Lae.
PNGRFL National Selectors delivered both teams to PNGRFL CEO Brad Tassell & Chairman Sandis Tsaka, with the selection focus on youth and the future said Tsaka;
“We are in a development phase and are looking at players who will carry the PNGRFL into the next World Cup in 2017 and beyond. There is an enormous amount of young talent out there, not just in the Digicel Cup, but also in leagues across the country. We need to focus on these young players and give them a pathway to progress through to the Hunters and Team Kumul programs. We are building towards the next world cup and to do that we need to concentrate on who will be the group of players that will get us there. We have a young group of players in the Hunters program and both the Confederate and Digicel Cup All Star teams have also been selected on that basis. We are intent on looking at the future of PNG rugby League and are excited about the group of players assembled in both the All-Star teams.”
The Team Kumul program, which funded the recent National Championships for U16, U18, Women and Men, will also fund the upcoming clash between the All- Star teams. The program will also deliver an U16 match between the Junior Kumuls and NSW U16 Academy plus a Women’s possible/probable clash to choose a National squad said CEO Brad Tassell;
“It will be a fantastic day of rugby league which will showcase the best young talent in PNG rugby league along the big match between the Kumul and Kangaroos teams. It’s the perfect stage for PNG players to really showcase their talent and perhaps earn a call up into the Digicel Cup, the Hunters squad for 2015, or inclusion in the Team Kumul program.

We have created that pathway and at the recent National Championships noticed some exceptional talent which is now being given the chance to perform on the big stage.”
The Junior Kumul U16 & Women’s Possible Probable sides will be announced next week.
