Spectacular red blood moon seen across North-East Papua New Guinea
A spectacular red blood moon appeared last night around 9 pm. It was visible to people living in the Momase and New Guinea Islands Region of Papua New Guinea . People took to social media with photo of the red moon.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow).
This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle.
Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur on the night of a full moon.
