Tuition Fee Free Policy Launched In West New Britain
Despite heavy criticism from the president of the PNG Teachers Association, the commodity component rollout of the Education Department’s Tuition Fee Free Policy, was launched in West New Britain.
This makes it the fourth province to launch the commodity component trial kits, after Central Province, NCD and Southern Highlands, respectively.
The launch saw Governor Muthuvel, member for Kandrian/Glouster Joseph Lelang, and managing director for Treid Pacific, Mr. David Wilson, dignitaries from the Provincial Education Department, teachers, students and parents witnessing the launch.
Governor Muthuvel thanked the Treid Pacific, as the private partner responsible for implementing and rolling out the delivery of school kits throughout the country.
He praised the O'Neill-Dion Government for the great initiative which aims to improve quality education by providing basic school material and stationary kits.
There are six different kits to be distributed to every school both in urban and rural areas.
Governor Muthuvel also outlined other major education projects such as EQUITV in partnership with JICA and the National Education Department.
Clean Internet in partnership with Telikom Foundation and the establishment of a TAFE College in Kimbe in partnership with IEA.
He urged the gathering to continue support education as knowledge is an indestructible asset compared with others.
