Army Chief : Investigations on Police, Army confrontation underway
An independent investigation report into the weekend stand-off between members of the police and defense force is anticipated to be completed by the end of the week.
In a news conference this afternoon, PNG Defense Force Commander Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo told reporters, that four officers each from the two disciplined forces comprise the investigation team to investigate the incident.
The team has already started its work, operating out of the Boroko Police Station under a Terms of Reference which Commander Toropo refused to highlight.
Commander Toropo says, the investigations will be fair and impartial and will identify who is at fault.
He says the final outcome of the investigation report and recommendations will be taken on board by the force, to discipline its members if they are found to be at fault.
Meantime, Commander Toropo says three of the four soldiers admitted with injuries at the Port Moresby General Hospital have been discharged, while one will be operated on.
Commander Toropo also says, he's been talking with Police Commissioner Geoffery Vaki, for the two forces to hold a reconciliation gathering soon.
The Commander also regretted the weekend incident and subsequent events the followed, however, assured the public in Port Moresby and the country, that the military is back to normal doing their normal duties.
