A Group of PNG Nurses fly to Singapore for Training
Port Moresby General Hospital specialist nursing staff fly today to Singapore for a training and learning program specifically to develop the capacity of nurses in Pre, Intra, and Post cardiothoracic nursing care at Port Moresby General Hospital.
Today marks another milestone in the on-going improvement of training and education at Port Moresby General Hospital, a hospital statement said.
As part of the on-going working partnership between the national Health Department, PMGH, Operation Open Heart and SingHealth, six Port Moresby General Hospital senior / specialist nursing staff fly out today (13th January 2015). This program is an intensive training program to enhance and improve their skills.
These handpicked nursing staff are part of the specialist’s training team that will support Operation Open Heart (OOH) in Port Moresby. On their return, they will have the new skills required to allow PMGH to begin the process to start additional open-heart operations at Port Moresby General Hospital. The aim of this training program is to bring the nursing unit staff of PMGH to a level that will allow for year round open-heart procedures. While the goal of having open-heart operations are still a while away, these are the required steps to achieve this outcome.
These nursing staff have all worked closely with OOH for a number of years. These nursing staff have been selected based on their experience and dedication at PMGH. The PMGH nursing staff are from the Operating Theatre, Intensive Care Unit, and High Dependency Ward.
PMGH CEO Grant R. Muddle made the following comments, “It is always a pleasure to see our staff gain additional skills to further improve healthcare services at PMGH. These staff are very deserving of this opportunity, and I know they will work hard and gain the new skills to assist further in the development of the Open Heart Program at PMGH.
“I am very confident that these new skills will be shared in a structured teaching process with other nursing staff here at PMGH. The new skills they will gain across Pre, Intra, and Post cardiothoracic nursing care will be invaluable in PMGH achieving our strategic goal of becoming a global standard health facility.
“I wish them all the best, and with their combined 60 years of experience, I am confident they will come back world class health professionals.”
