Asia LNG demand to double
THE demand for Asian liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to double to more than 400 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) from this year to 2035, InterOil says.
The company said demand for LNG in the Asian region would make up 70 per cent of the total global demand.
InterOil in a presentation on Monday highlighted that the global LNG demand would reach nearly 600 mtpa by 2035.
The traditional LNG buyers which were Japan, South Korea and Taiwan were expected to have new players on board that include emerging buyers such as China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
InterOil said buyers valued geographical diversification of supply.
The contracted global supply currently peaked at 350 mtpa in the next six years.
In recent times, Papua New Guinea became the world’s latest LNG producer with its first export of LNG last May.
According to the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, the LNG produced from gas fields in the Highlands was of high quality, what oilmen call “sweet” and was almost devoid of noxious impurities.
