Pacific Angel 2015 in Goroka
U.S. Embassy Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea: In July, the United States, Papua New Guinea and other partner defense forces will carry out a humanitarian assistance mission in Goroka. The mission, Pacific Angel 2015, will upgrade education and health facilities, as well as work to deepen local disaster response capabilities. A planning team will be in Port Moresby and Goroka until February 3, 2015.
While in Goroka, the team will establish priorities for Pacific Angel 2015. The Goroka team consists of both U.S. and Papua New Guinea Defense Force (PNGDF) medical professionals, logistics personnel, planners and contracting specialists. Pacific Angel is an annual joint humanitarian assistance mission that is designed to bring humanitarian civic assistance and combined civil-military operations in the Pacific region. The U.S. Air Force team will partner with PNGDF planners and Papua New Guinea civilian, government, and health care personnel to set Pacific Angel priorities.
Pacific Angel missions are conducted throughout the Pacific. Operations normally include elements of all four branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, active duty military personnel, National Guard forces, and reserve members.
The U.S. military participates in these operations to enhance relations with partner nations and to build local capacity to address humanitarian requirements.
