PNG CASA worried about passenger safety
Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is watching the continuous issues with pilot shortages within the Air Niugini Management with great interest.
Minister for Civil Aviation Davis Steven said today that the affairs of Air Niugini are not within the ministry of Civil Aviation Authority but his ministry’s concern is in the safety and security of the travelling public.
“Civil Aviation Ministry is mandated to ensure that all the operators within the aviation sector maintain the highest standards of safety that are determined by international standards,”
Minister Davis says CASA has taken steps to ensure that in the continuing issues that Air Niugini now faces with regards to its pilots and other issues affecting management, CASA is responsible to ensure that safety is not compromised in any respect.
He said, as the minister for Civil Aviation, he was delighted to inform the public that such steps have been taken and the government has been informed that CASA is monitoring the internal progress with Air Niugini and making sure that their role and obligation in ensuring safety is maintained.
