Prime Minister Peter O'Neill urges farmers to work the land

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister  Peter O’Neill says oil and gas will run dry one day in the country but agriculture will remain the backbone of the economy.
O’Neill was speaking to hundreds of farmers and villagers when he launched a cocoa project at Mutzing station, Markham district, Morobe, last Friday.
He urged rural farmers to work their land and grow cocoa because the Government had invested millions of kina into the agriculture sector.
O’Neill said the launching of the cocoa project was a key important initiative created by government agencies and he would give his full support to ensure it reached many people.
O’Neill said the Government was achieving its goals in education, health, law and order and infrastructure and needed support from the people to reach its capacity.
He urged everyone to partner with the Government and develop their land through agriculture, which will contribute to the economic development of PNG.
“We have agriculture potential in this country and this government will stand behind you to achieve it,” O’Neill said. PNG Today/The National
