PNG Power Consultants kicked out
All Consultants engaged by P-N-G Power, have been told to ceased their services, as hiring them has cost the company millions of Kina without any good outcome.
Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments Ben Micah, issued this directive, after discussing P-N-G Power's State of Emergency January Report with Cabinet.
S-O-E Controller, Captain Alois Urr Tom said, the Minister also issued directives for the Board and Chief Executive Officer John Tangit, not to interfere with P-N-G Power's financial operations.
Controller Captain Alois Urr Tom told NBC news today (Tuesday 10-03-15), the minister is enforcing its decision when announcing the SOE earlier this year, that PNG Power will undergo major changes depending on the outcome of the S-O-E.
And the sacking of all consultants is reinforcing that decision the minister had made using the Essential Services Act.
Without disclosing further information on the consultants, the Controller said, the SOE team have already submitted their first Report for January to the minister, and now they are finalizing the February and the final one for the minister's ministerial report to be taken to cabinet and to Parliament.
Government earlier this year announced the SOE to assist PNG Power recoup all its debts within a period of two months,.
And after the two months the team is expected to provide a report to the minister responsible so that he will table in Parliament.
Meantime, a member of the PNG Power State of Emergency Team is reportedly being attacked by elecricity consumers in the nations capital recently.
S-O-E Controller Captain Alois Urr Tom said, the victim was carrying out the disconnection exercise under the S-O-E when he was attacked.
The Controller said he has reported the matter and its now under police investigations.
Captain Alois Urr Tom adds his team is taking a risky exercise, especially going into settlements and business houses where most of the illegal connections occurs .
