Submarine cable for high speed internet and communication in in PNG
The Papua New Guinea government through its new newly established Technology company PNG Data Co is planning to improve the telecommunication and internet accessibility in the country and one of important projects PNG Data CO is undertaking is the Submarine CABLE Project that that will connect high speed telecommunication cables from HAWAI via Guam to Madang which will be the connection point for other parts of the country.
PNG DATA Co CEO MR PAUL KOMBOL says that this will make internet speed or traffic in the country more faster and even cut the cost of internet in Papua New Guinea by around 60 to 70 percent.
MR KOMBO says that the construction of this cable will be announced this month and will take one and a half years to complete it. “We are looking at mid 2016 for the completion of this international fibre cable at a shared cost of around 55 million US dollars” Mr KOMBOL said.
“Our strategy here is to connect up the main provinces using the fibre network and then later to places that are not accessible by satellite, so we are getting support from IPBC and other sister SOE to move this so that we can be able to get things done at a quicker phase so that everybody, especially the consumers benefit” Mr. KOMBOL added.
