West Papuan activist Benny Wenda told to leave PNG
Papua New Guinea has told West Papuan leader Benny Wenda to leave the country after he was refused a visa to remain in the country. PNG Immigration Officer Mataoio Rabura said Mr.Wenda failed to meet PNG's visa requirements and therefore he could not stay in the country. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said "Mr Wenda would be refused entry if he failed to meet PNG's immigration requirements".
Wenda arrived in PNG on Tuesday from UK to meet with Prime Minister O'Neill to get support for West Papua to be included in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG). However, he was detained by immigration officials at Port Moresby International airport upon arrival. He was later put on Brisbane bound flight by PNG immigration officials yesterday. He can re-enter PNG anytime if he meets the visa requirements. West Papuan supporters in the country have vowed to help their leader to meet those visa requirements for him to re-enter PNG sooner.
