10 Centres for Live Games Sites
Ten provinces in the country have committed to the 2015 Pacific Games ‘Community Celebration Site’ program.
Through this program, provincial governments will be setting up Games time live sites in their respective provinces giving residents and visitors an opportunity to gather and enjoy daily broadcasts of the Games sport competitions, art and cultural activities.
The ten centres confirmed for the Program will be in Central, Gulf, Manus, Oro, East Sepik, West Sepik, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands and Western Province.
Western Province will have two live celebration sites with Ok Tedi Mining, a platinum sponsor of the Games, coming on board to set up a site for its Tabubil Township.
“These sites will provide a vital link, connecting and engaging all Papua New Guineans, with the Games by bringing the excitement of the events in Port Moresby to the provinces” said Games Organising Committee CEO Peter Stewart.
Each site will be themed with Games banners, sponsor signage, a large blow up Games Mascot, balloons and the main feature of each site is the blow up Screen that will project the broadcast of the Games.
Provinces can organise extra entertainment and cultural activities in those venues which will be ‘free of charge’ and ‘alcohol free’ to ensure everyone feels safe to attend and enjoy the celebrations.
Mr Stewart said “We want every Papua New Guinean to be part of the Games in some way and a live celebration site in each province was the best way to achieve that.
Provincial Governors were given a presentation of the program during the Governor’s conference in October last year and were also given a proposal by the Games marketing Team when they toured the country with the Games Mascot, Tura.
The proposal included four provincial engagement programs; Live sites, Youth Leadership Program, Provincial Cultural Group and the OilSearch Games Relay.
All 22 provinces have confirmed participation in the OilSeacrch Pacific Games relay which is currently underway.
Apart from the Relay and Celebration sites, the 10 provinces have also confirmed participation in either or both the Youth leadership program and cultural group program as part of Game time activities.
Milne Bay Province will also be participating but only in the Youth Ambassador Program and cultural group program.
“I want to thank these provincial centres for putting their hand up first to offer such a great experience to the many that cannot make it to Port Moresby to be part of the Games”.
