PM O’Neill says Mendi is on the Rise and Business is Spreading - Calls for More People to start their own Small Businesses
The Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O'Neill CMG MP, has applauded economic progress taking place in Mendi that is creating even more employment and business opportunities.He said this improvement has come about through ongoing commitment from all levels of Government to create the right economic conditions, a significant improvement in law and order and hard work form business.
In has address to thousands of people from around Mendi, PM O'Neill said now is the best time for people to start their own small businesses.
"Business men and women are rising in this country," PM O'Neill said.
"I understand it is not easy, and Government cannot provide all the answers, but you can do it and we can do it."
The Prime Minister said that while not everyone can go to university, this should not stop people from staring their own small business and working hard to create success.
"Through discipline and hard work small businesses can grow and there are many stories of outstanding Papua New Guineans who have done well in their business.
"They start small and become big businesses in our country.
"Starting a business and making it a success requires a lot of discipline and sacrifice if they want to build their business."
PM O'Neill said he wanted to see the ongoing development continue in Mendi town as an example for the nation.
"Mendi is Changing!" he said.
"More businesses are coming to Mendi which means more people will come and more people will stay in the hotels and guest houses.
"Work together to make the place attractive for more tourists to come and business to come to Mendi."
The Prime Minister made the comments while opening of the Mendi Travelers Inn on April 10, in Mendi, Southern Highlands.
He was accommodated by Minister for Finance Hon. James Marape, Minister for Transport, Works and Implementation Hon. Francis Awesa, and Southern Highlands Governor Hon William Powi.
