Pacific MMI PNG Lewas overcome a determined Samoan team in two T20 Matches
The Pacific MMI PNG Lewas team has overcome a determined Samoa Women’s Cricket Team in two T20 matches today the Faleata Cricket grounds in Apia, Samoa.
In the first match, batting first the Pacific MMI PNG Lewas posted an impressive 3/106 runs off their allocated 20 over’s.
Pendell Mebo Ipi was the top scorer scoring 35 runs, while Tanya Ruma contributed with 25 runs with Captain Pauke Siaka on 18 runs as well. Samoa’s Tere Lini 1/17 was the best on the bowling for the Samoan side.
Samoa replied with the bat but did not progress quite well in replying to Pacific MMI PNG Lewas score managing only 34 runs off from 19.1 over’s
In the second match electing to bat first, Pacific MMI PNG Lewas Captain Pauke Siaka led by example posting a notable 21 runs, with Tanya Ruma 15 runs and Konio Oala 14 runs strengthening the team to a score of 7/86.
Samoa replied with the only double figure scorer Taliilagi Telea 10 runs while Pacific MMI PNG Lewas bowling was exceptional with Boni David, 2/8; Brenda Tau 2/4 and Norma Ovasuru 2/4 easily bowled the Samoan team that posted 10/48.
Team Coach Rodney Maha was impressed by the team’s performance and said that the win will lift the women spirits to look forward to the next match against the Samoan U19 team this Saturday.
“Both impressive display of bowling and batting by the Lewas saw them easily claim two wins today and this demonstrates the team to maintain their mark as the champions in the region,” Maha said.
“ We will now focus with good training drills before we take on another 50 over match with the Samoan U19 Team on Saturday,” Concluded Maha.
New South Wales Coach Joanne Broadbent who is assisting the team with training in Samoa said that the match started off pretty slow due to the conditions of the field but the Pacific MMI PNG Lewas performed exceptionally by putting wonderful score lines in both matches.
“The team had a wonderful bowling and fielding performance today which saw them manage to take out the two matches easily and I am positive they are on track to maintain their good form whilst for the remaining time here in Samoa,” Broadbent concluded.
The Pacific MMI PNG Lewas will play the Samoa U19 Cricket Team in a 50 over Match on Saturday. The team is in Samoa for a two week development tour that is part of the preparations for the Pacific Games in July.
