PNG Hunters shoot down Ipswich Jets 40 - 28
The Papua New Guinea Hunters stopped spirited Ipswich Jets fight back by beating them 40 - 28 at the Kalabond Oval this afternoon.
The Hunters led 16 - 6 in the first half after three tries through fullback Stargroth Amean, captain Israel Eliab and Kapa Otia. Zemings converted two of the three tries while the Jets only try came from Landon Hayes.
In the second half, the visitors scored early through Burly Chris Walker to narrow the score margin to 16 - 12. The Hunters replied with a try through Brandy Peter to extend the score to 22 - 12. Another try from Hunters captain Eliab further extended the lead to 28 - 12.
The visitors regrouped and replied with three tries in a row through Carlin Anderson,Billy McConnachie and Kurt Capewell that kept the Hunters go napping. The conversion of one of the Jets tries was unsuccessful and the score was leveled 28-28 all with less than five minutes left on the clock.
The Hunters regrouped and scored two tries in the dying minutes through Andex Wera and Lawrence Tu’u to seal the game 40 - 28 at full time.
Next week, the Hunters will take on Souths Logan Magpies at Sir John Guises Stadium in Port Moresby.
