PNG Police wants Aussie suspects return to Manus Island
PNG Police boss Gary Baki calls on Australia to respect the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea. |
Police in Manus have asked Australian authorities to return three expatriate guards at the Asylum Seeker Detention Center, wanted for questioning over drug use.
The expatriates and a Papua New Guinean woman was found naked and sniffing an unnamed substance at the Australia-funded accommodation mid this month.
Radio New Zealand reports Provincial Police Commander Alex N'Drasal saying he wants the suspects returned today.
The Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson Young says, things are getting out of hand at the Immigration centre on Manus, and needs an explanation from the Australian Government.
Meantime, Police Commissioner Gary Baki has told Radio Australia, the situation shows how little say Papua New Guinea has on the Australian-run center, further calling on Australia to respect the sovereignty of Papua New Guinea.
