Queen delighted about inclusion of Aust & NZ in Pacific Games

The Head of the Commonwealth- Queen Elizabeth II has welcomed the inclusion of Trans-Tasman neighbours and rivals Australia and New Zealand into the Pacific Games family.

In delivering The Queen’s message in his short speech before declaring open the XV (15th) Pacific Games, His Royal Highness the Duke of York, Prince Andrew said - The Queen welcomed the inclusion of Australia and New Zealand to their first Pacific Games.

“I would first like to congratulate everybody on the most amazing spectacular Opening Ceremony.

“It has showcased a model of diversity and inclusion something PNG is very very important to them,” said Prince Andrew, who delivered the statement on behalf of the Queen.

“Prince Philip and I send our best wishes to the government and the people of Papua New Guinea on the occasion of the 15th Pacific Games. I’m pleased to see that Australia and New Zealand will be participating in the Games for the first time this year.

“It is encouraging to see 24 countries from around the Pacific region coming together every four years through sport, to reinforce their common bonds and shared interests. I wish all the team the best of luck in the competition over the next two weeks.

“It now gives me the greatest pleasure on behalf of Her Majesty to declare the 15 Pacific Games open,” declared Prince Andrew.

His speech followed a splendid and mind-boggling display of splendor taken from the top drawer.

The night definitely belonged to the People of PNG displaying their wares to the visiting 23 countries and millions via satellite technology and various social mediums.

The stadium was packed to capacity far exceeding the 15,000 for the new look Sir John Guise Stadium that will also be used for the closing ceremony on July 18……PACNEWS
