Tari Secondary School receives sports equipment from BSP
Students at Tari Secondary in the Hela Province will now be able to participate actively in physical education lessons after receiving new sports balls and equipment from BSP.The school's basketball court also received a timely upgrade, involving patching and painting of the paved court, and the basketball board and hoop.
BSP Tari branch staff renovated the court over three weekends, using their own time to do so as a way of giving back to the local community. The team also conducted a clean-up at the courts.
To put icing on the cake, during the official handover of the project, the BSP team donated balls for basketball, rugby league, netball, including pumps, stop watches, training cones and whistles. They even gave uniforms for the umpires.
BSP Tari manager Gabriel Ak, when officiating urged the students to use the court and donated items wisely for their benefit. He encouraged them to also lead healthy, active lifestyles.
"Sport is an important tool for change and unity, in our community and nation, as we have seen in the recent Pacific Games, so I encourage you participate in sports," Mr Ak said.
Principal Clive Yemeni who received the project on behalf of the students and staff applauded BSP for the kind gesture, and said the items will be used to develop the student's skills in the various sports.
"Thankyou BSP for the court, the balls and equipment," an elated Mr Yemeni quipped.
BSP has 40 community projects scheduled to be delivered nationwide in 2015, by Branches nationwide and Port Moresby based, Strategic Business Units.
Since 2009, BSP has delivered over 202 community projects focused on health, education, environment and sports, valued over K4.4million.
