Police Commisioner Garry Baki defends transfer

Police Commissioner Garry Baki, says all recent reshuffles and transfers of senior officers within the force will not change despite public concerns.
He says the changes are a collective decision by the police management and is in the best interest of the Constabulary.
A newspaper reported today that a Port Moresby faction and several individuals were concerned over the transfer of National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa.
Commissioner Baki says the decision to move Superintendent Bawa is a promotion for him and is in the best interest of the young man.
Baki says "I don't need officers grandstanding in the media but commanders who can address our law and order issues and take effective command and control of the men and women under them."
He further say police brutality, poor police service, corrupt behaviour by officers and lack of discipline seems to be the norm around the country.
He told the six mile community to realise that as a young professional officer Mr Bawa needs exposure outside of the capital city.
All changes will take effect after a hand-over ceremony on October 31st at the police headquarters.
Meantime Commissioner Baki urged the media to be objective in their reporting.
He said what was reported in the papers today, can cause disharmony within the force.
Commissioner Baki urge the media not to write about what the policemen are saying but on what they are doing while being objective and critical on the type of policing services provided.
