Port Moresby hosts trouble free Independence celebrations
NCD Police have reported nil major incidents and attributed the peace and trouble free celebrations on heavy police presence and all locations around the city.
NCD’s Chief of Operations Silas Wayagure said 600+ police are stretched in all pockets of the city especially where Independence celebrations are taking place at Sir John Guise Stadium, Sir Hubert Murray, Jack Pidik Park, Ela Beach, University of Papua New Guinea, Parliament and other marked areas. He thanked the residents for been in their best behaviour to celebrate and mark the country’s 40th Independence.
Police operations started early this morning with the flag raising at Independence Hill and will wrap this Friday!
Meanwhile as a part of its celebration of the 40TH Independence Anniversary the Vision City Mega Mall had a traditional Dancing Competition.
The competition saw 5 groups from Morobe, Western Province, Gulf, Central Province and the Western Highlands all come out in their traditional attire to perform their traditional song and dance.
The Judging was marked out of 10 for the style of dance, the attire and presentation. Prices included food hampers, Eskies and trophies.
The competition was won by the Western Province traditional dancing group after putting a very entertaining performance that interested the crowd.
