Cricket legends coming to PNG for Pacific MMI legeds big bash
Cricket PNG has proudly announced today that four (4) former international cricketing legends will touch down in Port Moresby next Wednesday 14th October, 2015 as a part of the annual Pacific MMI “Don’t Drink and Drive” Legends Big Bash Event.
Former England One Day International (ODI) Captain, Adam Hollioake, who is currently pursuing a career in professional mix martial arts, is one of the four (4) cricket legends that will be arriving in PNG. The others being, former New Zealand Test Cricketer /National Coach, Mark Greatbatch, former Australian Women’s Test Cricketer/National Coach, Cathryn Fitzpatrick and former Australian Test Cricketer, Brad Hodge who is currently still playing in the major T20 Competitions around the world.
This will be Fitzpatrick’s and Hodge’s first visit to the country whilst Hollioake and Greatbatch have visited PNG before. Fitzpatrick will be the first female cricket legend to attend this event.
The visit is part of the award winning program “Don’t Drink & Drive” Legends Big Bash which is proudly supported by Pacific MMI. The event aims to address the issue of rising cause of deaths in the country due to driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. For the first time in the event’s history, Coalition For Change (CFC) will also be a supporting partner of this event which is a community based advocacy group, who is working towards achieving cultural change in PNG, regarding violence against women and children.
The Pacific MMI “Don’t Drink and Drive” Legends Event will include various events including media conferences, schools visits, high performance training programs with the biggest drawcard being the Pacific MMI “Don’t Drink and Drive” Legends Big Bash Cricket Event where all the legends will be playing alongside the Barramundis and Lewas players on Friday 16th October at Amini Park. Following the Big Bash Event, Cricket PNG will be hosting the Annual Pacific MMI “Don’t Drink and Drive” Gala Dinner at Crowne Plaza.

• Cathryn Fitzpatrick- Australia (1991-06)
• Mark Greatbatch- New Zealand (1988-96)
The Pacific MMI “Don’t Drink and Drive” Legends Event has been an annual feature on the Cricket PNG Calendar since the first event took place in 2009 with thirty-four (34) cricket legends featuring across all the previous events.
