Oro Governor, Gary JUFAA has today joined hands with the Opposition side of the house to show his support for the Vote of No Confidence against the PM, planned for tomorrow, when Parliament resumes. Juffa says he simply standing for what is right and for his people. He says the government is not meeting the interests of his people. Opposition Leader, Don POLYE says he is grateful that Juffa has shown his support towards Opposition and looks forward to tomorrow’s outcome in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Government led by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is intact, and confident of stifling any moves to topple it through a vote of no-confidence in Parliament.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the Government would lead the country to the 2017 general election, and that his Social Democratic Party would support the ruling People’s National Congress Party all the way.
Hela Governor Anderson Agiru of the People’s United Assembly said there were no “cracks” in the coalition government led by O’Neill.
Parkop said people, in particular the Opposition MPs led by Don Polye, hoping to topple the Government were in for a big shock.
“They are lining up for a major disappointment,” Parkop said.
He said the PNC Party had 64 MPs, plus those such as himself from other parties. “This Government is intact, solid and is here to stay until 2017,” he said.
Parliament sits from tomorrow and Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch is expected to table the 2016 national budget, plus a 2015 supplementary budget next Tuesday.
Parkop urged the people to go about their businesses and lives calmly because there was no political drama. He cautioned the Opposition “to stop misleading people.
Parkop said political stability was mostly needed now because the country was facing a drought and an economic crisis caused by a fall in global commodity prices.
“That the economy is not doing well is not caused by O’Neill or his government.
“The economic crisis is not caused by any one man. It’s a global problem that other countries face as well, some much worse than PNG,” he said.
Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas of the People’s Party recently said any move to topple the Government would be futile.
Two Cabinet ministers also rubbished claims that the government was likely to be overthrown in Parliament.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said: “We are the largest political party in Parliament today.”
Fisheries Minister Mao Zeming recently said the Government would easily defeat any move to have it changed.
