Police halt protest in Port Moresby
Police in Port Moresby has halted planned protest march against the Prime Ministers and his government this morning. A crowd close to a hundred gathered as early as 7am this morning at the Unagi Oval in Port Moresby in support of a peaceful protest march to demand the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to step down.
NGO activist Noel Anjo and other NGO partners including the public congregated at the Unagi Oval with placards and banners in the presence of police officers to present their 30 points petition to the PM.
However, Police restricted any protest march to the National Archives told the crowd to leave the place. Those who defy the commands were manhandled and beaten up.
Frustrated politician and activist Noel Anjo said ,“We have a court order in place and police cannot defy this order. Attempts to stop them will result in contempt charges laid against the Police.” He says they are preparing a contempt charges against the police for defying and orders from the court allowing for any peaceful protest march or gathering to be carried out without any interruption by police.
Mr. Anjo says they will return their petition to the people and carry out more awareness within 7 days before they stage another protest next week Monday 02nd November 2015.
“We will need to re-strategize and make more awareness to the people before returning for another protest planned for next week Monday. This time we come back stronger than today,” activist Anjo said.
Meanwhile Oro Governor, Gary Juffa has joined hands with the Opposition to move a Vote of No Confidence against Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
