New Singapore ambassador to PNG
Papua New Guinea and Singapore’s relations have been again strengthened with the presentation of the credentials of the new ambassador to PNG Chaly Mah Chee Kheong to the acting Governor General Theo Zurenuoc today at the Government House.
The new ambassador when presenting his credentials says he is honoured to be Singapore’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
“Let me assure you that during my tenure, I will work to deepen the existing ties of friendship between our two countries as we continue to build on existing areas of cooperation and to develop new opportunities for collaboration.
“I look forward to working closely with the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in this regard.”
Singapore and Papua New Guinea have enjoyed warm and friendly ties since their establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976.
“Our relations have strengthened over the years through interactions between our leaders and mutual exchange of visits.
“The goodwill between our two countries, which has been built up over the years, has put us in good stead as we work to enhance and advance our relations further,” says Mah Chee Kheong.
Meanwhile, acting Governor General Theo Zurenuoc when accepting Mah Chee Kheong’s credentials, said PNG and the Republic of Singapore continue to nurture and expand in all spheres of their relations.
“Papua New Guinea highly values the Singapore Cooperation Programme which has benefited many Papua New Guinean officials with quality technical skills and knowledge in key sectors including financial management, economic development, civil aviation and diplomacy.”
Mah Chee Kheong takes over from his predecessor Chelva Retnam Rajah.
