Solomon Islands Police arrest wanted fugitive, Edmond Sae

The Solomon Islands Police has confirmed that as a result of ongoing intelligence collection, analysis and planning, long time wanted fugitive Edmund Sae was arrested in the early morning of Thursday,

In accordance with a Warrant of Arrest issued by the Central Magistrates Court, Honiara.

Sae was arrested in Malaita Province with the support of the RAMSI Participating Police Force (PPF) and the Specialist Response Group.  Sae was conveyed, by the RSIPF Police Response Team, supported by the RAMSI PPF, to Honiara.

He was wanted in relation to the 2003 murder of the former Police Commissioner, Sir Frederick Soaki in February 2003.

The RSIPF has continued to gather intelligence in respect of Edmund Sae’s whereabouts over several years.  Sae has evaded previous attempts to bring him before the court.

On this occasion the intelligence gathered over a protracted period has allowed Sae’s location to be identified to a point which enabled a planned operation to be carried out to affect his arrest.

The RSIPF remain committed to ensuring the safety of the Solomon Islands community and will ensure wanted persons face justice.

Edmund Sae is expected to appear before the Honiara Magistrates Court .
