BSP PNG Barramundis start their UAE Tour on a high
The BSP PNG Barramundis started their tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a high with a thrilling two wicket victory over Oman in a Practice One Day Match at Dubai (CA2) yesterday.
In a rain affected, reduced 36 over a-side match, Oman posted a mammoth 8/244 with Adnan Ilyas (74) and Jatinder Singh (62) making valuable half-centuries for Oman, while Norman Vanua was the standout bowler for the Barramundis, taking 4/35 off eight overs.
Chasing 252 for victory in 36 overs under the Duckworth and Lewis System, the BSP PNG Barramundis got off to a brisk start with Tony Ura (33) and Vani Vagi Morea (38) putting on 48 runs for the first wicket in 6.2 overs. The momentum continued after their dismissal, with Mahuru Dai 47 (41), Sese Bau 35 (20) and Assad Vala 31 (37) making quick-fire contributions to keep the Barramundis in the match. Going into the last over, the Barramundis needed five runs for victory, with Dai and John Boge Reva at the crease. Reva hit a boundary off the penultimate ball to give victory to the Barramundis by two wickets despite Dai being dismissed off the first ball of the last over.
The BSP PNG Barramundis will play another warm up matches against Danube CC (local cricket club) on Saturday, before facing off against Nepal in two (2) WCLC 50 Over Matches at Zayed Cricket Stadium. Following these matches, the Barramundis will take on Afghanistan in the four-day I-CUP match in Sharjah.
