Social Entrepreneurship to address social issues
Entrepreneurs can use their skills to address social issues in the community. This was the message from the CEO and founder of FACE (Fund A Child’s Education) Africa, Saran Kaba Jones who is in Port Moresby to speak to entrepreneurs and those who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs in a seminar organised by the US Embassy in Port Moresby.
Ms Jones, a social entrepreneur whose community development organization in Sub-Saharan-Africa that is aimed at delivering water, hygiene and sanitation services told the participants that being an entrepreneur is not all about making money but is also an opportunity to innovatively transform and empower the vulnerable and marginalized communities that lack basic services.
She told the participants to not be afraid to start somewhere and make mistakes as this creates the opportunity to learn and improve services in the country.
Saran who was forced to flee Liberia during the Civil War at a young age with her parents said going back to Liberia after 20 years made her realize that the people needed help in very basic services and she was determined to be the catalyst to initiate change in Liberia. She encouraged those who participated in the seminar to not only focus in making profit but to have a heart to reach out to people in need.
