PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill Farewells Outgoing United States Ambassador Walter North
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill applauded the work of the outgoing United States Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, H.E. Walter North, for his efforts to strengthen relations between our two countries.
PM O’Neill made the comments following a farewell call from Ambassador North prior to his return to the United States at the end of this month.
The Prime Minister further thanked Ambassador North for his commitment to empowering communities and enhancing social relations between the people of Papua New Guinea and the United States.
“Ambassador North has a genuine commitment to community development and improving living standards for our people,” the Prime Minister said.
“As the head of the United States mission in Papua New Guinea, Ambassador North has overseen the implementation a number of projects that have delivered real benefits for our people.
“This is particularly the case in the strengthening of healthcare services and dealing with issues that include HIV/AIDs, TB and malaria.
“During Ambassador North’s time in Papua New Guinea, relations between our countries have expanded in the areas of bilateral trade, direct foreign investment and development co-operation.
“We are now also expanding security and military co-operation in preparation for APEC Papua New Guinea 2018.
“Papua New Guinea further appreciates the United States’ ongoing support for Pacific Island nations and the Pacific Islands Forum.
“I wish Ambassador North every success in his future endeavors,” PM O’Neill said.
