Marum named PNG Kumuls Coach
Papua New Guinea Hunters Coach Michael Marum has been appointed as Kumul coach by PNGRFL today.
His appointment will see Marum lead the National team in a one off match against the Fijian Batis during the ANZAC Weekend on May 7th at the Parramatta stadium.
PNGRFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka said the decision was based on Marum’s track record as the current top coach in the country based on his successes with the Hunters team and they felt it was the right decision.
Marum, who was acting as assistant coach under previous coaches like Adrian Lam, Mal Meninga and Stanley Gene, said he is humble by the appointment and is looking forward to do his best in his role as the Kumuls coach. However, his appointment is only for the May 7 Test Match and does not extend to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Meanwhile, selections for players to make the National team will be open to local players, Hunters and others playing in the Intrust Super Cup and NRL competitions respectively once the selection criteria's are formalised by the board.
The team will be announced two weeks prior to the Test match.
